WASHINGTON - Số người Mỹ nộp đơn xin trợ cấp thất nghiệp tăng nhẹ vào tuần trước nhưng tổng số người Mỹ nhận trợ cấp vẫn ở mức thấp nhất trong hơn 5 thập kỷ.

Bộ Lao động đưa tin hôm thứ Năm. Các ứng dụng lần đầu thường theo dõi số lượng nhân viên bị sa thải.

Mức trung bình trong bốn tuần cho các yêu cầu bồi thường, vượt qua một số thăng trầm hàng tuần, đã tăng 4.250 so với tuần trước lên 192.750.

Tổng số người Mỹ nhận trợ cấp thất nghiệp trong tuần kết thúc vào ngày 30 tháng 4 đã giảm 44.000 người so với tuần trước xuống còn 1.343.000 người. Đó là ít nhất kể từ ngày 3 tháng 1 năm 1970.

Người lao động Mỹ đang được hưởng an ninh việc làm mạnh mẽ trong lịch sử hai năm sau khi đại dịch coronavirus đẩy nền kinh tế vào một cuộc suy thoái ngắn nhưng tàn khốc. Số đơn xin trợ cấp thất nghiệp hàng tuần liên tục thấp hơn mức trước đại dịch là 225.000 trong hầu hết năm 2022, ngay cả khi nền kinh tế tổng thể suy thoái trong quý đầu tiên.
